The most efficient way to explain what I do is to say that I pull and push. This means asking, what can I do within an org to pull our idea along to fruition, and then how can I push our story out to the best audience possible, in the most efficient way?
In terms of pulling the idea sled, I've created content myself (photography and interviews, ad copy, design, CPG package design, media kits, and press releases, to name a few), but also have extensive experience working cross functionally with some very talented folks to bring an idea to fruition (building new websites with engineers and CRO specialists, creating a physical newspaper, launching a record label, producing photoshoots, working on longform video content, and helping revamp ambassador and influencer programs with folks like Chris Burkard).
When it comes to pushing the messaging out, I've worked on local events, worked on national marketing campaigns that created legislative change, as well as an international event with the president of Sierra Leone. When I was the only FTE on marketing at Kiva, I led the org out of a significant revenue gap in six weeks, and led a team of eight direct reports and agencies based in the US, West Africa, Europe, and South America. I managed every aspect of the marketing funnel and my team pioneered two new campaign types that leveraged exclusive partnerships with companies like Pepsi, creating several new product offerings for our partnerships team.
In my time outside of work, I'm the marketing consultant for a DJ Education platform geared toward BIPOC women and non-binary students called We Got Next PDX, and volunteer my time to local small businesses. I have a lot of fun when working on ambiguous projects in highly regulated or scrutinized fields such as finance, government, emerging technologies, or non-profit, especially in unfamiliar environments. I thrive when collaboration, creativity, and scrappiness are required and hope that all of my work brings a tangible element of humanity that you can instantly feel.
Thanks for taking the time to visit. Please drop me a line to say hello, recommend a book, or if you think I might know someone can help you out (my friends are very talented and very kind).
Update: I've only had one Oprah Book Club recommendation so far. C'mon people.
